The Butterfly Rabbit, also called the French Giant Butterfly, is a breed of domestic rabbit highly prized for its elegant appearance and gentle temperament.

Physical description

This rabbit is distinguished by its bright white coat adorned with unique colored markings. A line of color runs across its back, forming a “mule stripe”, while symmetrical spots appear on its flanks. Its head is also marked by a butterfly-shaped patch around its nose, from which it gets its name, as well as spots around its eyes and colored ears. The colors of the markings can vary, ranging from black to blue, through chocolate or even lilac.

Size and weight

Medium to large in size, the Butterfly Rabbit generally weighs between 4 and 6 kg. Its body is elongated, with well-developed musculature, and its upright ears measure between 11 and 13 cm.

Physical description

Originating from France, this breed was developed in the 19th century for meat and fur, but today it is mainly appreciated as a pet or for exhibition shows.
