Habitat and Distribution
Quick and agile, it can climb up to 500 m in altitude. In its natural environment, it prefers secondary forest to primary forest or forest edges.
Physical Description
Callitrichids are the only monkeys in which nails have been modified into claws, allowing easier locomotion on tree trunks in which they live. Their fur is blackish brown with gray tones on top, dark brown underneath. Their tail is ringed with black and gray. They have the particularity of having long black tufts around their ears, as well as a large white mask that extends beyond their face.
Diet
Geoffroy’s marmosets feed in varied ways. They are at the same time gummivorous, frugivorous, and insectivorous. They are managed by a European breeding program.
