Buffon's Macaw
The Buffon’s Macaw, also called the Great Green Macaw, is a species of macaw from the family Psittacidae. The Buffon’s Macaw lives mainly in humid rainforests or in the forested foothills of hills, but it can be spotted in certain more open areas to feed. It is visible up to 1,000 meters altitude in Honduras, Colombia, and Ecuador. The Buffon’s Macaw is a threatened species and classified as being in danger of extinction in its natural state. Its decline is due to habitat loss because of excessive deforestation. Today most of the remaining habitats are protected by Natural Reserves and conservation programs. This species benefits from a breeding program.
